Biography of David Mercer
I was born in Waco Texas. I've known good and bad times. The home I grew up in didn't have running water until I was 25 years old. I stayed a lot with my grandfather in a section called Tin Top Alley. These were single wall houses where you burned up in the summer and froze in the winter.

At about five years old I heard Ernest Tubb singing 'I'll Get Along Somehow" this was when I decided to be an entertainer. I learned to play the guitar from an old chord book I'd found. I started singing and writing songs.
After High School I entered the US Air Force and served 4 years. After my military time I entered College and playing local beer joints and Honkytonks to make ends meet.
I finally made my way to Nashville. I played a few clubs and sang demo sessions. But I was going nowhere. When money was scarce I slept in my truck or at times in an alley. I was a front man in Johnny Paycheck's band for a short time. At least I had a job, but the job was short and I found myself selling everything I owned to survive. I've appeared with Country Music Hall of Fame member Floyd Tillman, David Frizzell, and Leon Rausch of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys fame.
I worked with local Waco area bands for several years and then decided to form my own group. The band was called Chalk Bluff. We played across Texas, mostly for American Legions, Veterans of Foreign Wars Halls, we played for different Shriners groups across Texas, as well as many Dance Hall and other fraternal organizations. After the death of some of my band members we disbanded. I quit playing altogether and concentrated on writing songs and a few radio jingles. For the past few years I've been writing songs, and at last I decided to do a CD of my own. Years a go I met Boxcar Willie and he died he suggested that I try my hand in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. I've finally decided to take his advice. My CD is called Boggo Road. I'm very proud of it. I think the CD is solid Country with something for everyone. I've received airplay in Australia as well as New Zealand and the Netherlands. I hope ya'll will give me a listen and enjoy my music.
My CD has an old Floyd Tillman song "Each Night at Nine" I dedicate it to anyone serving in the military or is a family member of those in uniform. Also is a tune about the toughest prison in Australia Called Boggo Road, also there is the rockabilly sounds of the only Bad Habit I'm Supporting is you & Kristen Lynn. There are love ballads and Gold Medallion about a bar room stud that gets the girl. Certainly not last, but I've included a gospel song I wrote called "Nail Scarred Hand" I feel God can and will solve our troubles. I hope ya'll see fit to give me the honor of entertaining you. Hope to see you soon. All my best to ya'll from the Great State of Texas.
