Preacher, Teacher, Author, Country Gospel Singer and Song writer
Billy Egr was born in Vinson, Oklahoma in the spring of 1945. His parents were migrant farm workers and the family moved to California before Billy can remember. Growing up he picked cotton along side his family until they moved to Nebraska in 1953. That began a series of moves between the two states until they finally settled in Nebraska for good.
From an early age Billy developed a love for Country Music, and after a stint in the Navy he decided to make it his life's work. Also working as a radio disc jockey, the young man played the Midwest nightclub circuit until moving to Nashville in 1976.
Offered a recording contract by an independent label, Billy thought he had hit the elusive jackpot, and that stardom was just a step away. God had a different plan however, and called him to a life that was different from anything he had ever imagined. God asked Billy to walk away from the goals he had dreamed of for his whole life, and become a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
After training for the ministry for four-years, the newly ordained preacher became pastor of a small church in rural Nebraska. During the nearly five-years that he served that church, he developed a radio ministry that was heard in 12 markets including Chicago. On a ministry trip there in 1984, the Lord instructed Billy to move to the "Windy City,"and start an independent church. Two-hundred people that showed up for the first service, and International Love Ministries quickly became one of the city's most vibrant and spiritually influential church.
Within four-years the church reached one-thousand members, the radio ministry was expanded and a TV ministry was added. In addition, Billy wrote three books that were successfully sold on his radio and television programs.
Since leaving the church in the capable hands of an associate pastor in 1997, Billy has traveled as an evangelist and country gospel singer. Songs like "The Power of Love" have made it high on the European Country Music Association charts and he has written a new book called, "Rewards of the Spirit Filled Life. Billy Egr has ministered beside such notable servants of God as Joyce Meyer, Dr. Lester Sumrall and T.L. Osborne.
