"Life Song Revelations" draws from Billy's rich Christian heritage. With his opening, "Dear Friends, I am a direct descendant of a group of Russian Christians who were severely persecuted because of their beliefs. Their lives would have been in danger if they were caught with the written Word or living by its commandments. But the prayers and hymns that were composed out of the New Testament and put to memory were held in their hearts and couldn't be taken away. So they started conducting their worship services by singing the songs they had memorized, the ones that told the story of Jesus. The songs became their Bible, their Truth and their Hope and this is the wonderful message they told,"

Billy begins the traditional inspirational song "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" singing 2 verses translated into the Russian language. Besides his original inspirational compositions with Carl Walden, Billy has included songs by Ronny Hinson, "Mamma Made It", by Gary S. Paxton, "He Was There All The Time" (Grammy Award winner), and by Buzz Rabin, "I Believe in an Old Fashioned Jesus".

By: Xavier and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team:
“Life Song Revelations” by Billy Chernoff is an enjoyable expression of country gospel tunes. Full of faith and fervor, Billy delivers some powerful and straightforward lyrics of hope and love. Vocally, Billy shines as his soothing tone is perfect for this genre. The musicianship and the songwriting on the CD is very impressive. The simple yet powerful ballad “Lay Your Burdens Down” flaunts superb instrumentation, namely its stunning fiddle arrangement. Moreover, “Nothing Became Bread” is equally as emotional, delivering a heavenly saxophone melody, and stand-out lyrics. With production that is clearly professional, “Live Song Revelation” is worthy of your attention if you are a fan of country gospel music.

LIFE SONGS

REVELATION

Billy masterfully fashions his Nashville sound. Here is an absolute gem of which highly motivated Billy should be proud. Gentle-on-the-ear and communicative, there’s nothing tasteless about this 5-star country-gospel undertaking. The whole repertoire concept is a welcome release from the customary themes. Yes it is syrupy and down-home but there’s nothing artless about it. It is a truly appropriate observation and comment on subjects by a great talent fronting top-class Nashville sessioners produced by Ronny Light. Billy’s country-gospel songs are emotional and stimulating. Particular highlights are ‘I Believe In An Old Fashioned Jesus’ and ‘Nothing Became Bread’. This is most listenable so invest in it! All songs are new to me (except the first ('What A Friend' and Gary Paxton's last) but they are story-telling, poetic, descriptive, and easy-to-understand. PAUL DAVIS www.pauldavisauthor.com

"Life Song Revelations" is the album that every distinguished artist gets the chance to do. A release that was a bit of a departure from what Billy had done in the past. This album defines the virtues and spiritual side of Billy - and is a good fit for a listener with little or no understanding of what the governing principal of the universe is. It proclaims the good news of the Gospel.

great project “BIG TIME FRESNO RODEO" with ten great hits by the legend "Billy Chernoff”

Traditional Country Rodeo Cowboy and Country:

Billy Chernoff, aka Billy Charne, a Canadian born singer/songwriter and country hit maker has been on the music scene for a long time yet his music remains fresh and current. Chernoff continues to impress as he brings back “To Ma Ray Tom O Ray” and records new history with his latest release “Big Time Fresno Rodeo.”

A meeting in Nashville with Jerry Guthrie (son of Jack Guthrie) led to a collaboration of the title track, “Big Time Fresno Rodeo,” which was nominated for a Heritage Award with the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City by world famous cowboy Casey Tibbs.

“To Ma Ray Tom O Ray,” originally recorded in 1969 at the now famous “RCA Studio B”– Nashville and released internationally in June 1970, hit the TOP of the charts nationally in Canada and regionally in the U.S.

Through “Sally in Dallas,” Chernoff’s driving country groove describes his “innocent baby turned overnight lady”... while “Bye Baby Bye,” one that gets toes tapping and swingers swingin’, simultaneously spells out the tearful reality of losing a child through divorce.
Produced by Ronny Light with some of Nashville’s most established players who help convey Chernoff’s impressive sounds.

This engaging Americana album is just one of many ways we can appreciate the real country world—through the eyes, ears and heart of Billy Chernoff.

Billy's Fresno Rodeo, garnered him attention in the Western U.S., which resulted in Billy's performance on the Country Music Association of Texas' Awards Show. The title track "Big Time Fresno Rodeo" was nominated by Casey Tibbs for a Heritage Award for the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. "Big Time Fresno Rodeo" is wonderfully produced and Chernoff's vocal is as pleasing and comfortable as that of an old friend. It's good traveling music for going up and down the road. It's music to think to and music to think about.

A Better Way
Spotted Pony Records – 32008
Produced by: Billy Chernoff, Bill Wence and Joe Funderburk
(11 Selections – Playing Time 33:22)
Let Me Be (With My Darling Once Again) / You’re Not The One / Through Hell With You (And Back Again) / My Sweet Love’s Arms / When You Find That Special Woman / A Better Way / Love Takes Time / Andy Joe / Hold On I’m A-Coming (Louisiana Woman) / Take This California Girl With Me / Such A Fine Woman (To Be Mine)

Billy Chernoff, from Grand Forks, British Columbia, has been on the North American music scene for even longer than he cares to admit, placing Top 10 hits with his RCA and Spartan recordings on Canadian charts as far back as the late-60’s (then under the name Billy Charne). The veteran singer/songwriter shows he still has the stuff to make you listen (even if mainstream country radio seldom allows their listeners the same opportunity).

Billy Chernoff has written, or co-written, all of the songs on A Better Way, and several of them rate with his all-time best work. Listen to the lead single Through Hell With You (And Back Again), a pure country hurtin’ tune that is as good as they come, thanks to Chernoff’s traditional country vocal styling and his special knack of writing tongue-in-cheek lyrics.

There’s lots more here to get worked up over…Such A Fine Woman (To Be Mine) is a two-steppin’ effort, with more of that quirky songwriting by Chernoff; while the title track, A Better Way goes in a different direction with its faith and inspiration message. The album’s opening track, is a haunting song given a solid acoustic arrangement, something that is found throughout this classy collection.

A Better Way was recorded in Nashville studios with cream-of-the-crop session players on board.

—This is very nifty, classic-country production, and the vocalist has a yearning, hillbilly believability. Robert K. Oermann, Music Row.

“A Better Way” by the gifted and experienced Billy Chernoff is a collection of genuine and honest country tunes that will surely leave a lasting impression! Infused with themes of faith and divine hope, these songs take on a pleasing inspirational and uplifting role. “My Sweet Loves Arms” is a beautiful country ballad that shows off Billy’s soothing and smooth voice, accentuated by lovely harmonies. The title-track best demonstrates Billy’s beautiful and uplifting lyrical compositions. Furthermore, the instrumentation – everything from guitars to harmonicas and violins – are played with great skill and sincere feeling. Completed with brilliant production, “A Better Way” will surely touch the hearts and souls of listeners! Country fans will find song after song of pure enjoyment on this captivating CD!-Xavier P. "Magical Mystery Man" ... what you'll get is a mighty fine collection of contemporary cowboy songs. Billy's been around for a long time, yet his music on this CD sounds youthful and upbeat. It's sure to appeal to rodeo fans and performers, and to anyone else who enjoys contemporary country & western music. It's Billy's welcome contribution to putting Western back in the country sound. - O.J. Sikes, Rope Burns and Western Way

Billy Chernoff, a Canadian born singer/songwriter and country hit maker, blends rich American cowboy history with a clean Americana Country style.

Charting in the late 60’s (as Billy Charne) with a series of Top 10 singles for RCA including “Susie’s Better Half ”, plus “When You Were a Lady” and “To Ma Ray Tom O Ray” (both Canadian Number #1’s), it’s no surprise that Chernoff continues to impress with his free wheeling musical travels and takes us along for the ride with this latest release: “Magical Mystery Man.”

“Magical Mystery Man” is Alberta home grown, yet abounds with the flavor of the American West. These melodies reveal and reminisce as on “Even Poets Grow Old” and capture the wild spirit in all of us on tunes like “Down at the Rodeo,” but it’s tracks like “Hard Living Cowboy” that get our blood flowing and hearts racing. Production from superb guitarist Dave Hamilton, plus exceptional contributions of electric and steel guitars, dobro,  harmonica, fiddle, piano and more, help convey Chernoff ’s solid album, only an artist with longevity can produce.

This engaging Americana song collection is great comfort food for all of us starved for the real spirit of country and Americana ...slices of life that taste better with age.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME

Uneasy at the thought of dwelling too much on past successes(of which he has many), Billy says, “Without doubt, I think the best is yet to come! … I feel very fortunate to have been influenced by some of the people I've know along the way.

It's been a privilege and a joy to travel the USA and Canada taking my brand of North American country and cowboy music to the people and making my living from it! …I enjoyed even the small and medium-size venues as well as the bigger clubs, associations, and music festivals. For the most part, I have been flying under the media's radar and not creating too much fuss or hype. Now in 2006 with the release of the ‘Life Songs’ album that may be changing. Inter-denominational opportunities are presenting themselves for my music ministry. I would call that a highlight that is beginning to hatch.”

The Chernoffs have three kids of whom they are rightly proud. “In 2006 we have two girls aged 9 and 12 named Meagan Mabel and Catherine Grace. We also have a boy aged 15 called John William. They all live in Vancouver, British Columbia with their Mom (Dianne Lynn) and me, of course, when I'm not on the road. To spend quality time with my kids is an essential for me.

We make home in between three different locations – Vancouver-BC, Grand Forks-BC, and Nashville-TN. We raise our children in Vancouver so I spend as much time there as I can. My 91 year ‘young’ Father resides mostly in Grand Forks-BC my hometown so I pass through there as much as I can, and of course I work out of Nashville. That’s where my record company is and my immediate network of people that I work with are.”

While being interviewed for a segment of the ‘Grace and Glory’ Christian radio show in Mexia, Texas in the summer of 1999, Billy says that he came to realize that the oral tradition of worship and teaching (that he had been raised with) had left out a most important part of the Christian experience.

He says, “Truth dawned on me- as it did Nicodemus in his encounter with Christ recorded in John’s Gospel (John 3:5) in the New Testament. Christ declared that all men need to be ‘born again’ or in other words, experience the ‘new birth’. For me, I personally experienced a totally transforming and a life-changing event that even more convinced me of God’s existence… Nowadays, the debate rages about ‘intelligent design’ v ‘evolution. Some of the greatest scientific minds of our day are starting to yield and re-think their positions under the weight of all the compelling ‘intelligent design’ evidence that is so overwhelming. In my view, a creation of the magnitude of Planet Earth necessitates a Creator. I think that it would take a lot of outrageous faith these days to be an atheist! When I asked my 9 year old daughter, ‘How do you know that God exists?’ She promptly answered, ‘How would we exist if He didn’t?’”

WORD OF MOUTH PROMOTION

Billy hopes to broaden his fan-base in the USA and the UK and in particular target the Christian/Country markets. He has completed a new Country-Americana album this year (2006) that he will be releasing early next year. He has also started on a new Gospel album as well that I hopes to finish in the New Year. Billy says, “I hope to be able to go on writing songs that I love to sing, and making the best records I can, Then I hope to go around the country performing those songs. Being able to work steadily all these years is a blessing and a success in itself. Via the word-of-mouth, people tell other people about me and my music. With a positive media profile plus the word-of-mouth from audiences, I’m pleased that the news is getting around internationally about my music.”
